About The NMO

Picture

The New Music Office (The NMO) is the independent network for everyone who works in and around the business of music.

What is The NMO for? Our websites are a gateway for new music, artists, events and businesses to reach decision-making professionals across borders and boundaries, with a view of establishing interesting new contacts with like-minded individuals, and creating genuine business opportunities with open-minded companies around the world.
Our network events are designed to give our members the chance to meet face to face in a friendly, business-oriented atmosphere. A place where everyone’s presence is of equal importance.

Who is The NMO for? The NMO is not a fan-site. It is aimed directly at those who work inside our industry with the view that it will make communication, co-operation and opportunity-making more effective for all, and especially help new artists and their representatives to reach as many potential partners as possible.

The NMO Featured Artist. There is a frequent, if irregular, email mail-out to a database of hundreds of industry professionals that will include The NMO Featured Artist.  These professionals include people associated with labels, publishers, concert promoters, booking agencies, PR & advertising agencies, and media - TV, radio, online and print -, as well as sponsors, brand managers, consulates and music export offices.

Our Word-of-Mouth Philosophy. We aim to make sure that no email, no contact, no opportunity is wasted for anyone by making sure that our members are only people that we personally know or are recommended personally by those we know. We do not advertise ourselves or sell ourselves. We exist because of favourable word-of-mouth and that is just how we like it. We feel that this is a way to protect our members and ourselves from wasting resources. As a valued member of our community, we ask you to feel free to recommend The NMO to anyone you think is interested and interesting.

Taste-making. The NMO features various genres of popular music and is building a reputation of recommending high quality music and artists that have gone on to establish strong profiles within the music industry.  For this reason, The NMO is fast becoming a leading taste-maker, and an essential place for all those needing to be at the cutting edge of new music.

In Summary:
The NMO is:
- a professional platform for professional people.
- a gateway for new music, artists, events and businesses to reach decision-making professionals
- an independent, neutral platform that can not be bought.
- a trusted tastemaker for industry decision-makers.
- invitation-only, but free to use.
- essential.

The NMO is not:
- a fan-site.
- a blog.
- a deal broker
- useless.

The NMO testimonials from some of our members....

"The NMO provides a great service when it comes to focusing on new artists from the small territories. Being independent it ensures a fresh approach when picking "The Artist Of The Week" - and it has been a very useful tool to keep track of bands that could be showcased at SPOT Festival"
- Jesper Borup, Booker, SPOT Festival, Denmark

"If I want to find out what’s happening up north I always turn to the NMO, because I know Paul delivers the goods".
- Dietmar Schwenger, Editor, MusikWoche, Germany

"Without the efforts of the likes of The NMO, the focus on new music would be a lot less. To make the artist/bands/labels/manager easy to access is very valuable for the International music industry. Building relationships and being able to continue them over a long period is essential. Nothing is instant and these long and steady relations are fantastic when they work, and they do thanks to the various platforms and opportunities built by The NMO and others. The goodwill and visibility of new Nordic music has a lot to thank The NMO for".
- Jonas Holst, A&R, Sony/ATV Music Publishing Scandinavia

"The NMO is a taste-making tool aimed exclusively at music professionals that helped me discover lots of brilliant new acts from Scandinavia (and other places) and to get in touch with many industry colleagues from other countries. Highly recommended."
- Vasilis Panagiotopoulos, Projekta

"The NMO's commitment to developing artists, exciting music and discovering new talent is beyond commendable. In an age where we are flooded with on-line information, the NMO cuts through the fat and delivers a delicious slice of the best new music and is a brilliant tool for any music industry professional, with one eye on the developing market".
- Paul Baylay, MD, 25 Media Entertainment, Germany

"The New Music Office is a fantastic source for new talent and gives you a great insight into what's happening in the Scandinavian indie music scene. Paul's knowledge and network are priceless..."
- Carsten Stricker, CEO and founder, Verstärker PR, Germany

"The NMO is great platform for new artists to showcase to industry professionals – and a great first mover guide on what to keep your eyes on in Europe".
- Jonas Fjelding, 3rd Tsunami Agency, Denmark

Paul Cheetham, (UK) Founder/Creative Director

With umpteen years experience in the music business, Paul has built up a strong contact network around the world. This network is now being put to great use through setting up the NMO to help "make stuff happen".
Paul has worked as a concert promoter at the Mean Fiddler and Live Nation, he has worked as manager and advisor to acts such as The Rasmus, The Crash, TV OFF, and Murmansk, and he has been the Live Music Manager for Popkomm/Berlin Music Week. He is Managing Director of SSC Management and is head of the Berlin office of the SSC Group. He supports LFC, is struggling to get gymfit again, and is actually quite cool for his age.

Sarah Schwaab, (France) General Manager/Promotions

Picture
Sarah's background in marketing and promotion makes her the perfect person to oversee the everyday running of the NMO. She was educated at the Toulouse Business School where she attained a masters degree in Management & Marketing and went on to work for Europavox Festival, Arte TV, Reed MIDEM, and Popkomm/Messe Berlin. She is now the Communications & Promotions Manager at SSC Group in Berlin. Sarah is French, which instantly makes her much more interesting and impressive than everyone else.

Martin Hjorth, (Denmark) Website Champion

Picture
Martin is not only the NMO's website manager, he is also the prettiest member of our very pretty team. We all agree on this. A great Dane, living in Berlin - it doesn't get much better than this. He is a master of diversity - student, writer, label boss, drinker (see pic), dog-walker, and low interest money-lender - Martin is quickly building up a following of rabid enthusiasts of everything he stands for. We were so delighted by this, we asked him to join us.

Vasilis Panagiotopoulos, (Greece) Roving Reporter

Vas is our man for all seasons. And languages. A fluent speaker of several of Europe's Latin-based lingos, Vas is a well-known body on the conference and showcase circuit, as well as a damn fine writer for some of the English-speaking world's many music magazines. Vas is a thoroughly nice guy. If you see this man walking down your street, invite him into your home and feed him, or take him down the pub for a few beers, It's in YOUR interest to do this.
