HIGHASAKITEIt seems Norway has collectively agreed on redefining pop music through sheer brilliance. The past couple of years we’ve fallen (deeply) in love with acts such as Einar Stray and Team Me, and the next band lined up is the trio Highasakite. The NMO caught the band at this year’s Berlin Music Week where they played such a strong set that one could only imagine the band on a much bigger stage the next time around.
The band may have taken their name from Elton John’s “Rocket Man” (I’m gonna be high as a kite), but there’s nothing anachronistic – or stoned for that matter! -- about this band. This is rather modern indie pop full of interesting details, pounding drums and the enchanting voice of Ingrid Helene Håvik. She has a way of singing in an almost laidback way, as if stepping back and making sure she has an overview before putting words to her observations. But she is still deeply immersed in the songs and emotions pictured. There’s a certain mystique to the band, and at times they sound almost otherworldly without ever losing touch with reality. Highasakite released their debut album “All That Floats Will Rain” on Riot Factory early 2012. For more info: glenn@indianer.nu |

Name: HIGHASAKITE / From: OSLO/TRONDHEIM/ÅLESUND, NORWAY

Q1: How did you start? And where did the name come from?
It started with that Trond and I wanted to play together, so we made some songs and recorded them. Then Øystein came and saved the songs and made them come to life with his piano and synthesizers. We took our name from Elton John's song Rocket Man (and I'm gonna be hiiiiigh as a kite by then).
Q2: For anyone who has never heard of you, give three reasons why they should?
1 Check out new and exciting music, makes the world a prettier place.
2 If an album looks as pretty as ours does, it most probably sounds pretty too.
3 We think out music is super pretty, maybe you will too ?
Q3: Tell us a little about where you’re from and how your surroundings affect the music that you create.
I am from a little pretty city called Ålesund. It's on the west coast of Norway. Where the mountains are fierce and the ocean is wild and unforgiving. The beaches are white and untidy. In the summer we jumped from the bare rocks into freezing water. This place is my soul. It lies behind every piece of music and lyric that I write.
Q4: Which other artists influence your work?
I could make a very long list, but my friends and colleges has been the biggest inspiration for us i think. Its such a wonderful music scene in norway. Everyone knows each other, and there are so many shows and happenings.
Q5: What has been your most memorable experience of being in the band?
The whole process of it. I think we will look back at this time with joy. It is so much fun to get to play so many shows and hang out at rehearsal, and just do band stuff.
Q6: If you could organize your own dream festival which THREE acts would you choose to headline and why?
Mary Margaret O`Hara, Diamanda Galas,
Sidsel Endresen.
The festival would be called Crazy Beautiful, because that is what they are.
Q7: What are your current plans and what are your main ambitions for the future?
We are working on our next record, and trying to make it awesome. And we are going on tour as much as we possibly can.
Q8: Which other new acts from your country would you recommend to The NMO and its readers
