I GOT YOU ON TAPE

Studies show that Scandinavians drink much more coffee than the rest of the world. You probably do too. And late at night when you can’t sleep, and your heart races… where do you turn? Music. That, ladies and gentlemen, is the perfect time to listen to the Danish quartet I Got You On Tape. Well, that and every other minute of the day actually.
The band formed in 2004 and quickly became a respected act in their home country, but it took a few years before they had their real breakthrough when they won the prestigious P3 Award in 2010. The NMO have been fans for quite a while and were also lucky enough to catch their wonderful show at Popkomm 2010, which was one of the very best performances of the whole festival. Having conquered the North, it seems the time is now right for the rest of the world. Make some coffee or pour yourself a glass of wine; it’s time for some sophisticated, dark rock music fronted by the amazing voice of Jacob Bellens.

Name: I GOT YOU ON TAPE / From: Copenhagen, Denmark.

Picture
Q1: How did you start? And where did the name come from?
We all knew each other from different bands and projects around the music scene in copenhagen. We decided to bring the best people together in this group in 2004, and named it I Got You On Tape, because we were all into the things everybody in the group did.

Q2: For anyone who has never heard of you, give three reasons why they should?
1: You might never be the same
2: You will feel like "finally, somebody makes the music I wanted and needed all those  years, but didn't even know"
3:  You will be cool and have a new thing to introduce your friends to, and they willl love you for it.

Q3: Tell us a little about where you’re from and how your surroundings affect the music that you create.
Well, Copenhagen is a nice city with a whole lot of nice music going on, and I guess we are inspired by that, as well as each other, and the sounds we come up with in our small basement studio.

Q4: Which other artists influence your work?
We are all serious record collectors and music searchers, so the list is endless..

Q5: What has been your most memorable experience of being in the band?
A surprise business meeting in a hotel room in Montreal, Canada in the middle of the night. Very surreal..

Q6: If you could organize your own dream festival which THREE acts would you choose to headline and why?
Guided by Voices - Because they inspired us a lot for a period of time and we still listen to them occasionally
Ennio Morricone - Because his music is larger than life
Wu-Tang Clan - Because we owe them a lot, and we would cry tears of joy during CREAM. Again
.

Q7: What are your current plans and what are your main ambitions for the future?
We are still touring our latest album, and will probably continue to do so for a year or something. Then we'll make a new album and start it all over again!

Q8: Which other new acts from your country would you recommend to The NMO and its readers?
Murder, The Late Great Fitzcarraldos, Slowolf and Frisk Frugt
